## ▪️ CAPITAL BACKBONE

Gold corrected to $4,693 per ounce on Friday after testing $4,770 mid-week. The metal posted a roughly 3% weekly consolidation as elevated energy prices and pushed-out Fed cut expectations weighed on bullion. The floor held above $4,650 throughout the week.

Silver consolidated alongside gold, holding the $70-$80 range with closes near $76 per ounce. Industrial demand from semiconductors and energy storage continues to support the metal structurally.

The structural picture remains intact. Goldman Sachs maintains a $5,400 target for gold in 2026\. JPMorgan named gold its highest-conviction long with a $6,300 forecast. Smart capital is treating this consolidation as a pause, not a top.

## ▪️ THE ENTRY POINT

On Thursday, President Trump ordered the U.S. Navy to "shoot and kill" any vessels laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. forces also boarded a supertanker carrying Iranian oil. Both blockades remain in place. Iran sent a new proposal Monday morning suggesting the Strait could reopen if nuclear talks are deferred.

Markets read it as slow-burn escalation, not crisis. The S&P 500 closed Friday at 7,165.08 - a new record. The Nasdaq closed at 24,836.60\. Both indexes ended the week at all-time highs.

Gold consolidated rather than rallied. That is the structural signal. Hard assets are pausing while equities celebrate, but the foundation is not breaking.

## ▪️ STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

***The hard version:*** The Federal Reserve meets Wednesday, April 29\. Fed funds futures price a 100% probability of no change at this meeting. Policy is expected to stay on hold for the rest of 2026\. The odds of a rate hike by year-end stand at 8%. This is likely Jerome Powell's final FOMC as chair before Kevin Warsh takes over in May.

***Plain language:*** The Fed will not cut. The Fed might hike. The man running the meeting is leaving. The replacement is confirmed.

For hard assets, the implication is structural. A Fed that cannot cut while energy inflation runs hot keeps real yields elevated. That pressures gold short-term. The moment Warsh signals a different approach, the dynamic flips.

## ▪️ WHAT MATTERS / WHAT DOESN'T

**What matters: Powell's last meeting and the Warsh transition.**

The Fed has been the most important single institution in markets for fifteen years. Powell ran it through 2018 tightening, 2020 emergency cuts, and the 2022-2024 inflation fight. He leaves a Fed boxed by energy inflation it cannot solve with rate moves.

Warsh inherits the box. Markets that learned to read Powell's tells will need to learn a new vocabulary. That uncertainty alone moves capital.

**What doesn't: The daily Iran headlines.**

Trump scrapped Pakistan ceasefire talks Saturday. Iran sent a new proposal Monday. The Navy got new orders Thursday. The S&P closed at records anyway.

The structural facts have not changed in three weeks. The Strait is closed. Oil sits near $95\. Until one side blinks materially, the daily headlines are noise around an unmoved foundation.

## ▪️ AUTHOR'S LENS

| Marcus Grant, The Strategist: Records on the indexes. Consolidation in gold. A Strait still closed. A Fed about to change hands. I have seen this configuration before. The tape says everything is fine. The structure says we are at a hinge.I do not chase records. I respect them and watch what happens at the next stress point. Wednesday's Fed meeting is the next stress point. | ![Marcus Grant](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8c/09/8c09bf02-2863-4e2f-9427-328b96b722da/content/images/2026/08/for_lens_-t-1769788746-69.png) |

S&P 500 up 0.6% on the week. Nasdaq up 1.5%. Dow down 0.4%. Tech carrying everything. Eighty percent of S&P companies that have reported beat both EPS and revenue.I am watching the Magnificent Seven next week. Five of them deliver in five days. If they miss, the whole tape rewrites. |
