## ▪️ CAPITAL BACKBONE

Gold consolidated through a difficult week. The metal opened Monday at $4,318, drifted lower through the hot CPI print Wednesday, and tested $4,083 Thursday before holding near $4,090 into Friday's close. The floor at $4,083 held as Iran peace talks progressed.

Silver corrected to the $63-$64 zone alongside the broader mining sector. Industrial demand from solar and grid build-out remains a structural anchor.

Central bank demand has not paused. The World Gold Council confirmed central banks added 244 tonnes net in Q1 2026, with Poland adding 14 tonnes in April. The PHLX Gold/Silver mining index corrected 5.17% on the week. The structural case stays intact.

## ▪️ THE ENTRY POINT

On Friday, June 12, SpaceX began trading on the Nasdaq under SPCX at $150, above the $135 IPO price. The stock closed at $161.11, up 19.34%. Roughly 500 million shares changed hands. Market cap closed near $2.1 trillion, making SpaceX the largest IPO in history at $75 billion raised.

The week's other catalyst was Wednesday's May CPI print of 4.2% year-over-year, the highest since April 2023\. Core CPI held at 2.9%. The Dow lost 900 points that day on rate-hike repricing. By Friday, Iran peace talks signaled 80% probability of agreement, oil eased, indices recovered.

Gold corrected through the inflation print and held above $4,083.

## ▪️ STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

***The hard version:*** May CPI printed 4.2% headline against 3.8% prior, a fresh three-year high driven by a 23.5% surge in energy tied to the US-Iran conflict. Core CPI held at 2.9%. Goldman Sachs removed all 2026 Fed cuts from its forecast. CME FedWatch shows 97% odds of a hold at Wednesday's June 17 FOMC, with 70% odds of at least one hike by December. SpaceX (SPCX) closed at $161.11 Friday at $2.1 trillion market cap.

***Plain language:*** Inflation broke 4%. The Fed will not cut. SpaceX is now a real public company at trillion-dollar scale.

For hard assets, this is the structure under pressure. Gold's consolidation below $4,100 holds while central bank demand continues.

## ▪️ INDEX BEARINGS

## ▪️ WHAT MATTERS / WHAT DOESN'T

**What matters: Wednesday's FOMC decision under Kevin Warsh's first chairmanship.**

Markets price 97% odds of a hold at 3.50-3.75% but 70% odds of at least one hike by December. The dot plot tomorrow will reveal how many committee members see hikes as the base case after a 4.2% CPI print.

This is structural because Warsh inherits a market priced for cuts that are not coming. How he frames the next six months controls the next leg in yields, equities, and gold all at once.

**What doesn't: The day-to-day SpaceX trading speculation.**

SpaceX opened at $150, closed at $161, traded above $166 in post-market. Index inclusion forced billions in passive flows into a single new name. The headlines moved with each tick.

The structural question is not where SPCX trades next week. It is whether mega-IPO supply at trillion-dollar valuations is a top signal or simply the new normal. The mechanism takes months to resolve.

## ▪️ MARKET BEARINGS

**SpaceX** [$SPCX ( ▼ 1.18% )](https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPCX?utm%5Fsource=core-sector.beehiiv.com&utm%5Fmedium=referral&utm%5Fcampaign=inflation-just-broke-4-markets-still-rallied-on-the-spacex-debut) The largest IPO in history began trading Friday June 12 at $150, closing at $161.11\. Market cap hit $2.1 trillion. Musk's stake totals $869 billion through his 42% equity and 82% voting control. The mechanism the market must now process is index inclusion rules being rewritten in real time to accommodate a single low-float name.

**Tesla** [$TSLA ( ▼ 2.0% )](https://stocktwits.com/symbol/TSLA?utm%5Fsource=core-sector.beehiiv.com&utm%5Fmedium=referral&utm%5Fcampaign=inflation-just-broke-4-markets-still-rallied-on-the-spacex-debut) Closed Friday near $388 per share. Musk's combined SpaceX and Tesla equity stakes now approach $1.15 trillion. The two companies move in correlation that the prior decade did not feature.

**Walmart** [$WMT ( ▲ 0.21% )](https://stocktwits.com/symbol/WMT?utm%5Fsource=core-sector.beehiiv.com&utm%5Fmedium=referral&utm%5Fcampaign=inflation-just-broke-4-markets-still-rallied-on-the-spacex-debut) Held up through the inflation week. CEO John Furner spoke at the Bentonville shareholder meeting and addressed fuel cost pressure directly. As the largest US retailer, Walmart prices in real time what the CPI prints six weeks later.

## ▪️ AUTHOR'S LENS

| Marcus Grant, The Strategist: I have watched the market price an inflation surprise four times in my career. Each time the Fed eventually broke the rally. This time the surprise was 4.2% on Wednesday and the recovery was SpaceX on Friday. The market chose the story.I do not bet against IPO weeks. I track the bond market quietly behind them. | ![Marcus Grant](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8c/09/8c09bf02-2863-4e2f-9427-328b96b722da/content/images/2026/08/for_lens_-t-1769788746-50.png) |

S&P 7,431.46, up 0.65% on the week. NASDAQ 25,888.84, up 0.70%. Dow 51,202.26, up 0.66%. Russell 2000 +0.94%. The XAU mining index corrected 5.17%.The bond market disagreed with the equity rally Friday: yields stayed elevated. I keep my eyes on Warsh's first dot plot tomorrow. That is the data point of the week. |
